about

Back in July, DD and TG, the core duo that underpin the midwest mutant jazz conglomerate that is Crazy Doberman, rolled thru town and took up the First Church of Synthesis as their home base of operations for a couple of days before heading to Philly for their final show of an ambitious multi-week tour of the eastern United States.

I was stoked to host them, as I’d been following their brand of colony-mind lysergic improv for quite some time, and had planted the seeds for some sessions when I chilled with them in Indiana during a Shingles tour the summer prior. I was especially excited that we had a couple of days to really spread out and capture hours of experiments - including a massive Crazy Doberman/Grasshopper collab that will eventually see the light of day.

We had the Buchla patched and rumbling almost immediately once the car was emptied. Over the course of three days the duo dug deep, exploring the extremes of its sonic palette, quickly integrating their reeds and brass into it’s control mechanisms, and finding singularity within its circuits.

The fallout of these sessions yield the second chapter in our 'SYNTH TIDINGS' series.

Edition of 30, pro-dubbed and packaged with NQA's signature vellum, silhouetting one of the synth's many modules - here, the 230 Triple Envelope Follower.

about

Not Quite Archaic New York

NQA is micro-label arm of the First Church of Synthesis, a suburban home for wayward synths.

NQA remains steadfastly concerned with obscure formats, antiquated technologies and capturing ecstatic moments in time and preserving them, however transitory the medium.

We’ll be opening our home to visiting artists and composer residencies in the coming year and hope to share more on that soon.
